Pioneer Courthouse Square

Pioneer Courthouse Square is an iconic landmark in the heart of downtown Portland, Oregon. It’s often referred to as “Portland’s living room,” and it certainly has the cozy feel of someone’s home! This unique public space is built on top of a two-story underground parking garage and features a variety of amenities to keep visitors entertained. On any given day, you might find people lounging on the benches, playing chess, or enjoying outdoor concerts and events.

Established in 1984, the Square is surrounded by historic buildings, including the Pioneer Courthouse and the United States Post Office. In addition to its historical significance, it’s also home to a variety of shops, restaurants, and even an outdoor movie theater. It’s easy to see why this is one of Portland’s most popular destinations; you could spend hours here just soaking up the atmosphere.

The square is also home to a famous bronze sculpture of Portland’s founder, Marcus Whitman, as well as many other art installations and attractions. These include the iconic Portlandia sculpture and the water fountain, which serves as a popular meeting spot. Whether you’re looking for a place to relax or take in some culture, Pioneer Courthouse Square is definitely worth a visit.

And don’t forget to check out the famous “Church of Elvis” alternately called “The Grotto,” located near Pioneer Courthouse Square. It might not be your typical religious experience, but it’s a fun part of the Portland experience. Not to mention the chance to catch a glimpse of one of the city’s most beloved icons: Elvis Presley!

No matter why you’re visiting Pioneer Courthouse Square, one thing’s for sure: you won’t soon forget it. You can bring your family, friends, or just yourself and enjoy a unique experience in the heart of Portland. So don’t miss out: come on down and enjoy all that Pioneer Courthouse Square has to offer!
